Five Years of Spirit: How We Co-Created Spirit of Cacao

by Georgia & Elyse on February 06, 2025

Five years ago, we stood at the edge of a journey we could feel deep in our bones but couldn’t yet fully see. We had no roadmap, no business plan—just a feeling, a calling. Cacao had found us.

Like so many, our first experiences with cacao were deeply personal. It was more than just a drink—it was a remembering. A return to the wisdom held within our hearts, a connection to something bigger than ourselves. We felt the spirit of cacao speaking to us, guiding us to slow down, to feel, to be present.

It was in these moments of ceremony, of stillness, that the idea for Spirit of Cacao was born.

We knew we wanted to share this sacred medicine, but it had to be done the right way—with reverence, integrity, and deep respect for the plant and its traditions. What we were offering was never meant to be a product, but a portal. A bridge between worlds, connecting those who were ready to journey inward.

We didn’t just want to sell cacao; we wanted to create a space where people could experience it as the medicine it truly is.

And so, with humble hearts and open hands, we followed the spirit of cacao—and Spirit of Cacao was born.

The Journey So Far: Growth, Transformation & Staying True to Our Mission

The past five years have been a journey of trust, surrender, and deep gratitude. We never forced growth or chased numbers; instead, we allowed Spirit of Cacao to unfold organically, trusting that those meant to find this medicine would be guided to it.

Through this path, we’ve learned what it means to build something not just with our hands, but with our hearts.

✨ Creating Packaging with Meaning

One of our proudest evolutions has been the redesign of our pre-chopped cacao packaging. This wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about creating something that felt as sacred as the medicine inside.

Our new design was inspired by the vision and power of a sacred book or text—a key to unlocking inner knowledge. We believe cacao is a teacher, and just like a book filled with wisdom, its messages reveal themselves to those who are ready to receive.

✨ Sponsoring Seven Sisters Festival (Twice!)

From the beginning, we knew that Spirit of Cacao wasn’t just about the cacao itself—it was about community.

We’ve had the privilege of sponsoring the Seven Sisters Festival twice, where we’ve met some of the most incredible, strong, and brilliant women. These gatherings have deepened our understanding of what cacao does best—it brings people together.

Some of the most powerful moments we’ve experienced have happened at these festivals—sharing cacao, witnessing deep transformation, and watching connections form that will last lifetimes. These events are a reminder of why we do what we do.

✨ Remaining Unwavering in Transparency & Quality

One of the greatest challenges we’ve faced over the years is navigating the rising cost of cacao.

Cacao is traded like silver and gold, its value fluctuating wildly year-to-year. Many companies have responded by switching to cheaper varieties, cutting corners, no longer using ceremonial grade or sacrificing quality to maintain profits.

But we never wavered.

We refused to compromise on the integrity of our cacao. Instead of switching to lower-quality sources, we made the difficult but necessary decision to raise prices when needed—ensuring that we could continue to bring the same sacred strain of cacao to Australia. All this during the highest periods of inflation and people no longer spending on 'non-essentials'.

Because this is more than a business. This is about honouring something greater than us.

✨ Surviving the Market’s Challenges

The past five years have been full of challenges. At times, the price of cacao has skyrocketed, making it nearly impossible for small businesses like ours to continue.

And yet—we’re still here.

Why? Because of you.

Through every challenge, every market shift, every uncertainty, our community has held us. Every order, every heartfelt message, every person who has shared our cacao with a friend—this is what has allowed us to keep going.

We are endlessly grateful for the people who believe in this medicine as much as we do.

✨ A Special Shoutout to James at Belgrave Market

If you’ve ever visited our Belgrave Market stall, you’ve likely met James.

James is more than a market helper—he’s a dear friend and a true believer in the mission of cacao. He understands the importance of bringing this sacred plant to the community, and his presence at the market has been an incredible gift to us.

These are the connections that remind us why we’re on this path.

Built by Heart, Sustained by Community

Spirit of Cacao has never been about chasing numbers. We’ve never taken outside funding, never poured personal savings into growth, never run big ad campaigns.

Instead, we’ve let cacao do what it does best—call in the right people, at the right time.

This means our growth has been slow—but it has been real. It has been built on trust, on word-of-mouth, on the magic of community.

Every single order means the world to us. Not because of the sale—but because of what it represents.

It’s another person discovering the beauty of cacao.
Another heart opening.
Another soul returning home to themselves.

This is why we do what we do.

The Next Chapter of Spirit of Cacao

Five years ago, we had no idea where this journey would take us. And today, we still don’t have a perfect plan for the future—because we know cacao will show us the way.

What we do know is this:

We will continue to honour cacao as the sacred plant medicine it is.
We will continue to build this community with heart and integrity.
We will continue to trust that those who are meant to find us, will.

To everyone who has supported us, shared our cacao, and believed in this mission—thank you.

You are the reason we are still here.

With love and gratitude,
Elyse & Georgia
